Closing the Gap in Indigenous disadvantage focuses on a number of targets outlined by the Council of Australian Governments. Specifically, these are to close the gap in life expectancy within a generation to halve the mortality rates for children within a decade and to halve the gap in unemployment.
For the health sector the initiatives are supported buy the PIP. The PIP comprises a one-off practice registration payment, payments for each ATSI patient registered with the practice and outcome payments attached to CDM EPC item numbers. The PIP aims to support general practices and Indigenous Health Services to provide better health to ATSI patients, particularly those with chronic disease.
Closing the Gap is an Australian Government initiative.
